In this Law Firm Marketing Minute, Eddie and Mike share the best “diet” advice law firms need heading into 2026, and it has nothing to do with cutting carbs. They break down why chasing likes, followers, and comments on social media can distract attorneys from what actually drives revenue, and how a smarter, more focused social media strategy helps firms stay credible, visible, and profitable. If you have ever wondered whether social media is really working for your law firm, this episode reframes how to measure success without obsessing over vanity metrics.

Why law firms should have a social media diet. Yeah. Yeah. The the thing about um social media as a whole is that there's this mainstream kind of idea that if you're successful on social media, it means that you have a lot of likes, a lot of followers, a lot of comments. Numbers up. Yeah. A lot of numbers, right? Uh just popping off. There are certain industries where it kind of makes sense, right? Like someone who's an artist. Yeah. Right? Like they hope to get some sort of comments like, oh, like I admire this piece of work for Yeah, I've seen your post, Mike. I'm not saying it's me. Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_00:How likely are is someone that's worked with an attorney in a confidential manner willing to go out and like it and comment and say, Yeah, I mean, I just imagine what kind of law you do. Yeah. I mean, depending on what what practice are in. A lot of people don't want to be that made public.
SPEAKER_02:There's you know, there's definitely people who air out that kind of stuff, like, you know, uh publicly, like, and that's their thing.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, and the other thing, I mean, I I tell clients this when we work with them, I think the two of the biggest hurdles here is I say, What would you rather have? A hundred thousand dollars or a hundred thousand dollars uh a hundred thousand likes, because one doesn't translate to the other. And I think that I getting the people to see beyond the likes as to how social media can turn into dollars without the likes, without the engagement, I mean is you're probably not gonna get them anyway, but it's still effective and understanding how the tool works while still being able to be a an exceptional marketing tool minus the vanity metrics as we refer to them.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. So when we say social media diet, we're really talking about like getting to the core, yeah, right? The core of social media, the purpose of social media, what is the purpose of social media? Stay top of mind. Uh, it's also to show people who don't know who you are but find you, um, go to your social media through your website and see, oh, this person is still active, they're still, you know, their shop is still open, so they're good. It's also, it can be a way to share stuff about your law firm. Maybe you won an award, maybe you hired somebody new. It's the difference between what's necessary and what's possible. Don't get me wrong. There are all law firms that do very well in terms of getting uh engagement on their content and more power to them. You know, it's definitely possible. Oh, yeah. But the the key is it's not necessary.
