Welcome to the Law Firm Marketing Minute, the go-to podcast for solo and small law firms who want to level up. Alright, without further ado, let's dive in. Hey everyone, and welcome to the Law Firm Marketing Minute. I'm your host, Jon Henson, and this is take two. I literally just recorded this episode and then deleted it and I can't get it back, and that's just very frustrating. Which leads me into today's topic already Mental health.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Not talking about marketing today, just I felt like this was a really important message to get out. But, like I said, may is Mental Health Awareness Month and so all month over on our website, spotlightbrandingcom you can even click over to spotlightinsidercom where we keep all of our content, our blogs, videos and all of that, because we're going to have just all kinds of articles and stuff coming out this month around mental health, not just necessarily how you can take care of yourself whether it's self-care tips, dealing with stress, dealing with yourself, whether it's self-care tips dealing with stress, dealing with depression, whatever it is but also how you, as potentially a firm owner, can destigmatize it to make your firm a safer space to have discussions where people don't feel ashamed of it or feel like they can't talk about it and be open and honest about it, because, you know, I think that actually makes your firm a better place to work, when people feel like they are able to talk about anything like that. You know, and it's just, it's odd, you know, because for whatever reason, you know, mental health has just been so stigmatized in our country and yet it's just a thing, it's just another thing that people live with. You know, mental health has just been so stigmatized in our country and yet it's just a thing, it's just another thing that people live with.

You know, maybe you have irritable bowel syndrome, maybe you have chronic acid reflux or something, and it's like to me it's the same thing. You know, you go and get treatment for those things. Maybe you take some Tums or you have, you know, some sort of prescription medication that you take for those things. It's the same thing with with mental health stuff and and I know that the legal industry in particular is is fraught with all kinds of mental health issues. You know it's burnout, it's depression. You know some people deal with some substance abuse because of it um, you know or anxiety, or whatever the case may be, and I think you know it's tough to be vulnerable in that in that time and admit that, hey, I'm dealing with some stuff. But also it helps people better understand you and give you kind of some space that you need. I mean, look, I'll be totally upfront with all of you here and I may have mentioned this on the show before, I know we've had center stage episodes about it but I'm on the autism spectrum and with that comes a lot of stress and burnout, especially in dealing with other people and being kind of misunderstood.

Speaker 0:

A lot of times it is just a lot of anxiety and then it will get to a point where I just check out and I deal. I have kind of a depressive episode for a couple of days. It sucks and I process things very differently. But I recognize that I go to therapy. I you know I have things that I do to try to minimize the, the amount of time I'm feeling down or burned out or stressed or whatever the case is, and so like, look, if you don't want to get prescription medication for it and I understand kind of a lot of the fear and trepidation around that, but I cannot recommend just talking to a therapist enough and if you're interested in seeing what that's like. We actually did a center stage episode earlier this year with my therapist, sharon O'Connor, and we talked about what the process looks like.

Speaker 0:

You know what therapists do and they do a really good job of just, you know, making you not feel judged, just having just this open space where you can let out everything that's on your mind. And then you know working through things, reframing things, whatever it is, to get you to a better place. And so you know, if you're feeling burned out, stressed, anxious, dealing with depression, you know just be, you know work on recognizing it and find different ways to minimize those feelings and work through those feelings a little bit faster. You know, uh, don't, don't down an entire bottle of whiskey every night. That's not healthy. Have a glass or two, totally fine, but find that balance Right, uh.

Speaker 0:
